SUMMARY:All My Relations Arts "Creation.Story" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening reception of Creation.Story on Thur
sday May 8th from 6 - 8 pm.\n\nCreation.Story is an art exhibition that
centers on the significance of creative expressions and oral traditions
amongst Očhéthi Šakówiŋ cultures. Multiple artists representing t
heir Očhéthi Šakówiŋ heritage provide visual artworks and creative
concepts to engage audiences with the expansive creation narratives tha
t underlie Očhéthi Šakówiŋ identity and values.\n\nThe Creation.S
tory exhibition incorporates the art of multiple visual artists to enga
ge audiences with the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ oral traditions. This exhibit
ion encourages inclusive dialogue that celebrates and rediscovers creati
on stories as they exist for those who carry them forward. A creation st
ory is a sacred depiction that gives a narrative to the beginnings of ti
me and the formation of a world. Over time\, the sharing of these narrat
ives becomes oral traditions and often grows into various versions that
demonstrate the creativity of the storyteller.\n\nCreation.Story is a t
raveling exhibition co-curated by Keith BraveHeart and David Meyer (Akta
Lakota Museum). In addition to the original curators\, each venue works
with roster artists as co-curators for their location. Jaida Grey Eagle
\, Kylie Wanatee-Thunderhawk\, and Mikayla Patton are the co-curators wo
rking with All My Relations. This exhibition has previously been shown a
t the Akta Lakota Museum (Chamberlain\, SD)\, The Heritage Center (Pine
Ridge\, SD)\, The Dahl Arts Center (Rapid City\, SD)\, and the South Dak
ota Art Museum (Brookings\, SD).\n\nFeatured artists: Jhon Goes In Cente
r\, James Star Comes Out\, Mikayla Patton\, Randilynn Boucher-Giago\, Dw
ayne Wilcox\, Dyani White Hawk\, Marlena Myles\, Talon Ducheneaux\, Keit
