The Upper Sioux Indian Community is a federally-recognized Indian tribe Nestled in the heart of southwestern Minnesota, the Upper Sioux Community proudly serves as the ancestral home of the Dakota Oyate, a resilient nation with a rich history deeply rooted in the region. Our community, named Pezihutazizi Kapi, meaning ‘the place where they dig for yellow medicine,’ is a place of cherished traditions and unwavering commitment to self-determination. As a tribal headquarters, we are dedicated to providing essential services, fostering cultural preservation, and promoting economic development for our people.
