Gichitwaa Kateri Catholic community was founded by cooperation with Dakhota and Ojibwe elders and spiritual leaders, some of whom were Catholic, and some not, and the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Catholic Mass is celebrated each Sunday . Pipe ceremonies and other Native traditions are practiced. Dakhota and Ojibwe languages are used, and musical instrumental accompaniment of drum, flute, and fiddle.

Programs include:
Funerals Ministry
• Overnight wakes
• Emergency food shelf that serves families who have had a wake. (This is not a regional food shelf, but “drop ins” are also welcome.)
• Miigeweyon “Going home” hearse project: provides transport (at no charge) of the deceased to their home reservations within a 400-mile radius.

School supply giveaway

Hundreds of K-12 students are given school supplies and back packs each fall.

Christmas Celebration

We host Santa, as we feast Christ’s birth with a meal and sharing of gifts. Support from partner parishes allow us to distributed gifts to those who sign up from the community.

Children’s Coat Giveaway

Each October coats, hats and mittens and some winter clothing are offered at a one-day event. Throughout the year, we fulfill requests, as able, to both drop-ins and program participants.
Housing Consultation and Housing Stabilization Services available weekly
Parish Elders program held monthly.

Alcoholics Anonymous/ AA
• Medicine Wheel AA meeting on Mondays from 6-7 pm, Please ring or knock at back door.
• Red Road AA meeting on Wednesdays from Noon – 1 pm
