Staff Highlights: Angel Swann

Describe yourself in one sentence.
Strong and resilient, determined and hardworking, a loving mother and partner.
What is one thing in your professional history that you are proud of?
I am proud of myself for getting my Masters Degree. At one point I didn’t want to finish my high school degree; a few years later I had three degrees and landed myself a position that I love at NACDI!
What is something you are working on outside of NACDI that you are excited about?
Currently I am working with the Science Museum of Minnesota on a guide that can help lead institutions to a more equitable way of working with the community. I have the honor to work with leaders all over Minnesota who are dedicated to co-creation and collaboration throughout their work.
What would you like your legacy to be?
This is a hard one! I would like to be remembered as a hardworking mama who did whatever she could for her family and community. To me nothing matters without your family and community supporting you.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I would like to never get tired. I have too many things to do in a day and sleep only holds me back!
If you could choose one song to play every time you walked into a room, what would you choose and why?
Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae is a good reminder to loosen up and take it easy sometimes.
Angel has a BA in Ethnic Studies from Metropolitan State University and has just graduated with a MA in Heritage Studies and Public History from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
Angel has worked for a few different community organizations such as the Science Museum of Minnesota, Pow Wow Grounds, and American Indian OIC. Her most recent projects included seed rematriation work at the Science Museum and the Minnesota TRUTH project at the University of Minnesota.
When Angel isn’t working you can find her camping, hiking, or kayaking on the north shore.
